On Sunday, I went to see "The Color Purple" at The Menier Chocolate Factory which is just around the corner from The Shard. It was bloody brilliant! I've always wanted to watch the film but never got round to it, so when I found out that my sister was to be in the first European stage adaptation - I had to see it! The stage was no more than about 12 chairs carefully constructed to suit each scene. Cynthia Erivo played Celie - the main character and she was on stage for virtually EVERY scene but she oozed vitality and the audience never tired of her presence.
After the show, whilst waiting for my sister to come out, I got to meet and have a photo with Christopher Colquhoun (he was in Casualty once) - he doesn't know it yet but he's my future husband...
The show's sold out now but hopefully the West End will kick out one of the existing boring shows and squeeze The Color Purple in with this cast but it truly deserves to be there!

I read the book a couple of weeks ago and was actually wondering if it had been adapted for stage...so that answers that! I'm glad it was so well done too.
