My time management is absolutely ridiculous. Staying up late and having to wake up early have left me virtually reluctant to do anything other than eat, sleep and drink when I get home from school. I've done no outfit posts nor jumble sale finds as I really just haven't had the motivation :(
But thankfully it's half term next week and I WILL blog several times sharing my jumble sale finds and experiences.
Moving on to the basis of today's post: as I'm an English student, for my AS course we've got to complete a piece of coursework on two comic plays. My school has selected The Birthday Party by Harold Pinter and Twelfth Night or What You Will by William Shakespeare. This afternoon we had the opportunity to go and see a production of Twelfth Night put on by London-based theatre company Custom/Practice at The Giant Olive Theatre in Kentish Town.
Personally, I've never really been a fan of Shakespearean plays having seen As You Like it last summer but was left remaining unsure as to whether I really did like it. Thanks to the actors who did an awesome job of bringing Twelfth Night to life especially in a semi-modern setting with features of modern life shining through with the use of smartphones and tablets, the play suddenly became far more entertaining and I felt overwhelmingly emotional as the play draw near to a close. I must mention Nathanael Campbell who played the role of Feste and whose rich, soulful vocals really emphasised the musical aspect of the play. The boy was beyond brilliant!
Unfortunately as the use of mobile phones and cameras were prohibited during the production, I was unable to take any pictures but rest assured all characters were gorgeous and absolutely hilarious!
Our tickets were only £12 as we're classed as concessions and go right up to £17.50 which aren't bad prices at all - money very well spent! The only downside of the whole experience was the size of the theatre. Above a pub, initially my peers and I somewhat apprehensive as to what was to be expected. The stage itself is very small nonetheless, the actors did make great use of the available space they had - with the fluency and uniqueness of their performance, the cast really and truly deserve to have their play showcased on a bigger stage.
Overall, I've been converted. I must thank my English teacher who found this fabulous production of Twelfth Night and organised the trip to see it. Custom/Practice theatre company are one that I will happily purchase tickets to see again. I cannot wait until their next production f a Shakespearean play is released and while they are embarking on a UK tour of A Midsummer Night's Dream, there have not yet been any dates released at a venue near me. Until then, I shall wait with bated breath....
